You Are the CEO of Your Life
I’m curious, how is the business of Your Life going at this time?
Are you pleased with the financials, the scheduling, and the team supporting Your Life?
If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, I’ll share some context. There’s a fantastic book by Patrick Lencioni that offers the idea of seeing and running your family nucleus like a business - because it really is “the most important organization of your life.”
When you think of a business, you think about having structure, clear core values, regular meetings to assess progress, and agreements about how and when things happen. You hire (and fire) people as necessary to create momentum toward the company goals, etc.
Yet how often do you run your family and your life in this way?
So, here is my offer to you: You are the CEO of Your Life.
You get to make all the wonderful choices about how you spend your time, who you give your energy to, where the money you receive is allocated, and (most importantly) who you bring on your team.
As you look at your world, who is around you?
Who are your clients? Your co-workers? And who are your kids’ teachers? Your gardener? Your car mechanic?
The people you interact with on the regular ARE the team of Your Life, whether by default or by intention.
A client, let’s call her Jennifer, recently shared with me about a lot of changes happening in the company she works at and a lot of significant changes in her personal life. Jennifer reflected on how relieved she was to have our coaching work together so she could feel more grounded in all the transition. Then she had a stunning realization: she had established an incredible “team” that she’s put in place to support her whole experience of life. Everyone has an intentional role. Team Jennifer!
She has her life partner, she has me as her coach, she has her boss that supports her and guides her, she has five really close and wonderful girlfriends who do life with her, and she has a gardener, a house contractor, and a bookkeeper she intentionally chose and loves because of who they are and the excellent services they provide her.
As you consider your own team, are you satisfied with them? Do you have a vision and structures in place for your life to move towards what you want?
For our paid subscribers, there's an attached worksheet to go deeper into this idea.
My encouragement is to spend some dedicated time with the idea of The Business of Your Life as it stands, with you as the CEO.
What do you see? If you’re willing to share, I would love to know.
